morning of August 9 there will be no sale in this room until further
notice.
Children's Book Sale
The Children's Room has moved to the portable formerly occupied by
the Jewish Community Center next to the soccer field. It is entirely
filled with children's books and toys. You'll find picture books,
school age fiction and non-fiction, award winners, non-English titles,
CDs and DVDs, and books for parents and teachers, most for 50 cents
or $1. This room and the Bargain Room open at 10 am on Saturday.
Strollers are welcome in the Children's Room at any time.
Bargain Books in K-7
The Bargain Room is located in Rooms K-7 and K-6 of the Cubberley main
campus, right next to the tennis courts. Paperbacks are 50 cents,
hardcovers are $1, and children's books are just 25 cents each. The
room also contains many LP records and 78s at $1 each. On Sunday, the
room opens at 11 am and all prices are half off. Save even more on
Sundays by buying grocery bags from us for $5 each and stuffing them
with any items in the room. Buy 4 bags and get the 5th one FREE!

Library/Youth Center is built, and the Downtown Library is renovated.

November Sale Notes |
 |
THERE IS NO "MAIN" SALE THIS MONTH.... Due to the uncertainty
of predicting winter weather coupled with volunteer fatigue, we have
decided to forgo any Main Sale this month. We do appreciate your
patronage at the past two Main Sales held on the Library patio.
The Bargain Room and Children's Room will both be open regular hours
(Sat 10-4; Sun 11-4) for the November Sale.

New Building Update |
 |
Our Main Room is still closed due to the August 9 fire. The building is
in the process of being completely replaced. The old building has been
removed and we expect work to begin on the new building next week.
If all goes to schedule we should be back up and running in time for
the January sale, however this is still tentative at this time. For the
latest updates please visit the FOPAL Web Site.

Members-Early Sale Postponed; Annual Meeting To Be Held Nov 13 |
 |
The annual Members-Early sale, which was to be held this month, has been
postponed until early next year. Because it is unlikely that we will be
ready for the December sale and because the January sale falls so early
in the month, we are tentatively rescheduling the Members-Early sale for
February. There will also be a regular Members-Early sale in November
2011.
The Friends of the Palo Alto Library Annual Meeting will take place on
the Patio Area of the Mitchell Park Temporary Library at 10:30am on
Saturday November 13. All Friends Members are invited to attend at take
part in the meeting and election of officers for 2011.

We're Still Accepting Donations! |
 |
Donations are being accepted at the Children's Room building which we
call "The Annex". This is the portable building located next to the
main soccer field and between Greendell School and the Pavilion. Look
for the big green "Friends" sign. There is usually a volunteer manning
a table in front of the building in the afternoon, or donations can be
left on the table if it's not raining. Donation receipts are available
on the table. We'll also arrange pickup of large donations or if you
are unable to bring your books to us.
|
Bargain Room Bag Sale on Sunday |
 |
On Sunday the Bargain Room features a "bag sale". For $5.00 you
purchase a large shopping bag from our cashier and then you can fill
it up with anything inside the Bargain Room. We encourage creative
bag packing to maximize value. For every 4 bags you buy, you get an
additional bag FREE! If you don't want to buy a whole bag, all items
are 50% off our Saturday prices - so hardback books and media are
only 50 cents, softcover books only 25 cents.
|
One-Liners |
 |
The Annual Members-Early Sale has been POSTPONED until February. Details
will be published in future newsletters and will also be available on the web
site.... The next "Better Book Bonanza" will also be in February. Don't
miss it!.... Remember, we do accept donations during the sale - drop off a few
and pick up some new ones.... If you sell on eBay you can donate a
portion of your sale to FOPAL! We're now listed as one of the charities under
"eBay Giving Works". Please contact us if you need more information. |
NEW! Recycle Your Used Packing Materials At FOPAL |
 |
Looking for a place to recycle those packing materials? FOPAL can use them!
As our online sales have grown we would be happy to accept your used bubble
mailers, small boxes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and those bags of air
and we'll reuse them. We cannot use large boxes or styrofoam blocks, however.
|
Think Ecologically! - Bring or Donate Your Own Bags |
 |
Due to the increasing reuse of grocery and other bags, we tend to run
short at our sales and encourage you to bring your own cloth tote or
paper bags to the sale. If you have any extra grocery bags in good
condition please bring them for your purchases at the sale. We would
also gladly accept any extra bags you wish to donate.

Support
Palo Alto's Libraries While You Shop |
 |
By shopping at Kepler's Books in Menlo Park and Amazon.com, a
percentage of your purchase price can help the Palo Alto Libraries at
no cost to you. At Kepler's,
just mention to the cashier that you want to support the Friends of
the Palo Alto Library. For Amazon.com, always start your shopping
session by
clicking here or on the Amazon link on the top right of any of
our web pages at
www.friendspaloaltolib.org.
Virtually all purchases you make at Amazon are eligible, not just
books. Over the years, we've raised thousands of dollars to help
our libraries through these programs.
